Yamaha TMAX For Sale
The 2015 Yamaha TMAX is an A2 licence friendly premium maxi scooter with sporty bike credentials and is powered by a 530cc parallel twin engine which puts out 46bhp. It was first launched in 2001 and updated in 2008, 2012 and 2017.
What Is It?
- Bike handling with scooter practicality
- Only room for one full face helmet
It's powered by a liquid cooled 530cc parallel twin engine, putting out 46bhp at 6,750rpm and reaching maximum torque at 5,250rpm. To get round the traditional scooter problem of frame flex the engine is a stressed member of the frame. ABS adds £300 and 3kg to the weight.
- Cast Aluminium frame
- Automatic gearbox with belt drive
- 267mm floating discs up front with 2 piston calipers
- 282mm disc at the rear with single piston caliper
- 41mm upsidedown fork with 120mm travel
- Rear swingarm with 116mm travel
- Fuel injection and electric starter
- Two stage adjustable windscreen (with tools)
- Lockable glove box
- Always on LED headlights
- 12V power socket
Improvements over the 2012 generation include a new look front with dual LED lights and central diffuser under the screen where the old position light used to be; the aim is to look more like their sport bikes and to improve wind protection.
Elsewhere the folding mirrors sit higher for easier movement between cars and the forks are now the upside down variety usually found on sport bikes for better handling. In a similar vein the brake calipers are now radially mounted and there is a new smart key which lets you start the engine or open the seat with a simple button press if the key is in your pocket.
The underseat storage has plenty of room for a full face helmet and the 15" wheels are rocking a 120/70 tyre at the front and 160/60 at the rear.
Options include an Akrapovic exhaust system with Titanium muffler (£830), design seat (£260), heated comfort seat (£330), Aluminium footplates (£60), belt drive cover (£35), small sport windscreen (£70) and colour coded 39l/50l top cases (£130/£170). The standard TMAX is available in grey and black.
The special edition looks the part with gold forks and gold caliper caps which work beautifully with the "Liquid Darkness" colour scheme (think Batman). There is also a plush seat and Aluminium footplates. RRP is £9,400 with ABS.

Parts & Accessories
The 530 is the one to go for; faster and best handling of the lot. I have had the Mark 1, Mark 2, Mark 3 and love my Mark 4. There are tales of cam chain tensioner failure on Mark 1 and 2, you can hear a rattle before it goes. Also the fuel pump on the Mark 3 occasionally fails.
Build is excellent even through Winter but use ACF50 to be sure. I get 8,000 miles from the pads and 6,000 miles from the tyres before they go "off". The 12,000 mile service is very expensive due to a belt change and 4 filters. I use mine every day and its the most reliable bike I have had.
