What Is It?

The BMW R1200R is a popular premium naked bike and is powered by a new air-cooled 1,170 cc Boxer engine, producing 108.6 bhp at 7,500 rpm and maximum torque at 6,000 rpm.

Features include:

  • Steel tubular frame with shaft drive
  • Dual 320 mm discs up front with four piston calipers
  • 265 mm disc at the rear with two piston caliper
  • 41 mm fork with Telelever suspension and 120 mm travel
  • Rear Paralever suspension with 140 mm travel
  • 6 speed gearbox

BMW's new R1200R replaces the R1150R with almost 24 bhp more power, 17% more torque and 25 kg less weight. The 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre up front and a 180/55 at the rear.

Options include the heated grips, ABS, traction control (ASC), electronic suspension adjustment (ESA), TPMS, 770mm low seat and 830mm high seat.

Colours: Dark grey, light grey, red

Model History & Updates

2010: Minor update to the engine which increased power to 110 bhp at 7,750 rpm, marginally increased the torque and the red line up to 8,500 rpm. The dash also got a mini re-design and there was a Touring Special with comfort seat and 32 litre panniers.

2011-2012: Classic with wire spoked wheels, black paint with white stripe, silver engine and Chromed exhaust.

2013: 90th Anniversary with black paint, matt black engine, grey cylinder heads, gold suspension / brake calipers and grey swingarm.

2013: Dark White with white paint, blacked out drive train / wheels / fork, grey frame, sports seat and mini screen.
