Yamaha FZS1000

What Is It?

  • Great all rounder, R1 engine, comfort
  • Suspension, heavy frame

Power is provided by a liquid cooled 998cc inline 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine, producing 143bhp at 10,000rpm and maximum torque at 7,500rpm. It's basically the same engine as the 1999 R1 but re-jigged slightly for more power lower down, with slightly smaller carbs and a heavier flywheel. RRP is £7,200 for the naked or £7,600 for the faired Fazer.

Features include:

  • Steel tubular frame and Aluminium swingarm
  • Dual 298mm discs up front
  • 267mm disc at the rear
  • Adjustable 43mm fork with 140mm travel
  • Adjustable rear shock with 135mm travel
  • Four 37mm Mikuni sidedraft carbs
  • Yoshimura 4->1 exhaust system
  • 6 speed gearbox

It's also differs from the donor YZF-R1 in that it has a smaller clutch, 10% heavier crankshaft, Aluminium rather than Magnesium cylinder head cover, smaller radiator and re-designed airbox. It all adds up to a heavier but easier to use bike for the road. The 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre at the front and 180/55 at the rear.

2004-2005: Blacked out engine and frame, new ECU and new exhaust to meet new emission standards

Colours: silver, red, blue, black, red/black
