What Is It?

  • Capability, value, loads of torque
  • It isn't the best looking bike out there, finish

It's powered by a Euro 2 compliant air/oil cooled 1,157cc inline four cylinder engine, producing 96.6bhp at 8,500rpm and maximum torque at just 4,000rpm. It's the engine from the GSX-R1100 but bored out and tuned for low down torque.

Features include:

  • Steel tubular frame
  • Dual 310mm discs up front with Tokico 2 piston calipers (3 from 2001)
  • 240mm disc at the rear with single piston caliper
  • Adjustable 43mm fork
  • Rear shock with adjustable pre-load
  • Mikuni BSR36 carbs
  • 4->1 Stainless Steel exhaust system
  • Centre stand
  • 5 speed gearbox

The 3-spoke 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre at the front and 180/55 at the rear. Accessories include panniers, top box and belly pan which were all available as a GT model.

The 1200 Bandit and semi-faired 1200 S Bandit are essentially the same but the S is 6kg heavier and was also available with ABS which added a further 7kg.

2001: Re-design with updated frame, more torque at 6,500rpm from the engine, improved cooling, lower 790mm seat, new fork and 3 piston front brakes. The S got a new fairing/headlight design as well. Weight was up to 214kg dry and 220kg dry for the S.

2006: New fuel tank, adjustable shock, adjustable seat (785mm/805mm), headlight, mirrors and ABS is now optional on both. Naked is now 212kg dry and the S 215kg dry, while ABS adds 4kg.
