Piaggio say the X10 was designed in a wind tunnel and you can tell by the smooth flowing lines of the bike; it's definitely less angular than the competition. Year round comfort and practicality are the main aims of the X10, with plenty of little details such as the parking brake switch built into the kickstand, clock and ambient temperature displayed on the dash with an ice alarm. Even the handlebar controls are backlit for ease of use.

One striking feature is definitely the headlight - check the pics above. Two low beams, which include the front indicators, frame a single circular high beam in the centre which itself is surrounded by a strip of LEDs; it looks purposeful and the LED strip handily doubles as a running light/parking light.

Storage is excellent under the seat with 52 litres of space for two helmets and a small convenience light for easy use at night. There is also a large central glovebox with a 12V socket and two smaller compartments either side with the left featuring a USB socket for your phone.

For stopping safely there is a Combined Braking System (CBS) as standard where the right lever operates only one of the front calipers and the left lever operates the remaining front and rear calipers. The Executive version adds ABS and ASR which is Piaggio speak for rear wheel traction control (4kg extra). The ASR function can be turned off when needed from the dashboard to deal with gravel drives etc.

Options include a large colour coded top box with backrest (2 helmets), medium top box (one helmet), multimedia platform (standard on the exec model), comfort gel saddle, alarm, passenger backrest and a small sporty black screen. The multimedia platform lets you connect your mobile and use it as a comprehensive dashboard, including sat nav with nearest service centre, ride stats, eco riding and grip warning alerts.

The 15" front wheel takes a 120/70 tyre and the rear 13" wheel a 150/70 - both are a 5 split spoke design. Main service interval is 12,400 miles with oil and filter change at 6,200 miles.

Available colours: grey, black, blue and white (with brown interior and seat)

The securing clips on the fuel pipe from the fuel pump to the injector support may be defective. This could cause the pipe to split and/or rupture and may result in fuel leaking from fuel pipe connections. This should be identified by a strong smell of petrol and or fuel leaking from the machine onto the ground. If damage to the pipe occurs it will create an increased risk of fire and/or crashing as a result.
