What Is It?

The Kawasaki VN1600 Classic is a cruiser style bike and is powered by a liquid cooled 1,552 cc (95 cubic inches) V-Twin engine which puts out 65.7 bhp at 4,700 rpm and maximum torque at just 2,700 rpm.

Features include:

• Shaft final drive
• Steel tubular frame and swingarm
• Dual 300 mm discs up front with Tokico two piston calipers
• 300 mm disc at the rear with Tokico two piston caliper
• 43 mm fork with 150 mm travel
• Dual rear shocks with adjustable rebound and 95 mm travel
• Fuel injection
• Side stand
• Analogue / LCD dash
• 2->2 exhaust system
• 5 speed gearbox

It builds on the VN1500 with an 82 cc larger engine, 5% more power, 10% more torque, a larger radiator and a switch from spoked to cast wheels.

The 7-spoke 16" wheels take a Bridgestone Exedra 130/90 at the front and a 170/70 at the rear.

Model History & Updates

2004: VN1600 Mean Streak with minimal pillion provision, dual clocks in the usual position, larger 320 mm discs up front, 73 bhp at 5,300 rpm, max torque at 2,800 rpm, smaller 17 litre tank, smaller fenders and standard controls. 2005: The Nomad / Tourer version includes the screen, panniers, engine bars, fork deflectors, an exhaust either side, pillion floorboards, pillion comfort seat and pillion backrest. It weighs in at 350 kg dry and has a 705 mm seat height. Check out this video review from mark savage.
