BSA started out as a major force in guns and bicycles around World War I and II then moved into motorbike production as demand for guns/ammunition faded post-war. Things went really well during the 50s but started to fall apart with increased competition from Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha in the 60s and 70s. Even buying Triumph in 1951 did little to help BSA motorbikes survive and thrive.
